On December 1st, SAIC Group Innovation Research and Development Institute launched its second-generation electric drive assembly with a magnesium alloy housing and an electric drive three-in-one assembly featuring the housing. This product is the world's first magnesium alloy electric drive housing produced using semi-solid process technology.
This is one of the largest magnesium alloy components currently used in the automotive industry, and the product not only excels in structural optimization, innovative technology, and aesthetic design, but also achieves a perfect combination of performance, cost, and weight. Compared with traditional aluminum alloy structural materials, it can reduce weight by 2.5-7 kg, improve motor power density, improve vehicle noise, vibration, and roughness, and help optimize the vehicle's front-to-rear weight distribution, improving handling performance and driving experience.

Motor housing: Magnesium alloy has a lower density than aluminum alloy, so in some high-end motors, magnesium alloy housings are used to reduce the overall weight of the motor, especially in electric vehicles (EV) and aerospace motor applications, where efficiency can be significantly improved.
Motor rotor and stator components: Magnesium alloy can also be used for certain rotor and stator parts of the motor, where the quality and rigidity requirements are high. The high strength and excellent machinability of magnesium alloy make it an alternative material.
Cooling system: Magnesium alloy has good thermal conductivity, which can help the motor cool down and keep it in an efficient working state, especially in high-performance motor applications where cooling requirements are high.
Motor components: In some medium-sized and small motors, magnesium alloy can also be used for other structural components, such as brackets and connectors, to further reduce the overall weight.
