    The Importance of Proper Layout of Die Casting Units

    The production process of alloy die-casting parts is as follows: the raw materials are transported to the factory by truck in the form of aluminum ingots, and transferred to the aluminum ingot storage area in the workshop by forklift. The smelting furnace melts the raw materials into aluminum liquid and then transfers them to the holding furnace. The feeder takes the materials from the holding furnace and feeds them to the die-casting machine. After the die-casting machine is die-cast, the robot takes the parts and carries out product inspection, water cooling, slag bag removal, laser coding, and material cake removal. After passing the inspection, the parts are taken off the line from the die-casting island. After deburring and X-ray inspection, the qualified parts are transported to the machining area, and the unqualified parts enter the waste area and wait to be cut and returned to the furnace for use. The hot mold parts produced when the equipment is started and the material cakes cut under normal production conditions can be crushed and used as recycled materials. The supporting equipment of the die-casting unit includes: spraying robot and spraying system, picking robot and picking system, product inspection device, product cooling water tank, slag removal device, plasma cutting (or punching method of large press and die), orthopedic device, coding station, spot cooling machine, vacuum machine, mold temperature control system, mold temperature data monitoring feedback system and oil collector, etc., which form a complete system with the die-casting machine. The layout and quantity of peripheral equipment should be determined according to the process requirements of specific products, and the production rhythm should match the die-casting machine. In order to obtain the maximum space utilization, the most efficient logistics route, the best production process and the shortest production rhythm, all the equipment of the above die-casting units must be reasonably laid out.

    1. Temperature Recommended crucible temperature: 415-430℃. For thin and complex zinc alloy parts, the temperature can be taken to the upper limit. But do not exceed 430℃. Too high temperature can easily lead to; aluminum and magnesium in zinc alloy will be lost; oxide and Fe content will increase, resulting in more slag. Temperature observation with naked eye: a. If the molten liquid is not too viscous and clear after scraping the slag, and the slag is not very fast, it means that the temperature is appropriate. b. If the molten liquid is too viscous, it means that the temperature is too low. c. After scraping the slag, a layer of white frost will soon appear on the liquid surface, the zinc liquid will turn red, and the slag will be too fast, indicating that the temperature is too high and should be adjusted in time. After the furnace has been used for a long time, the temperature display may have errors. It is recommended to use a temperature probe to directly detect the zinc liquid. 2. Alloy preheating Alloy preheating can evaporate the water vapor remaining on the alloy to avoid the risk of explosion: At the same time, it can also reduce the temperature fluctuation caused by the material setting and try to ensure the consistency of process parameters. The alloy ingot can be placed at the furnace for preheating. 3. Alloy feeding If conditions permit, alloy feeding should be as small as possible and fed multiple times, which can also reduce the temperature fluctuation caused by feeding and ensure the consistency of process parameters as much as possible. 4. Centralized melting Centralized melting can ensure the consistency of alloy liquid temperature and composition as much as possible. 5. Peripheral tools Avoid contact between iron tools and zinc liquid to avoid increasing the iron content. Stainless steel tools can be used. 6. Impurities Try to avoid adding some dust, sand and other debris on the ground to the crucible together with the material head. Impurities will be generated, resulting in poor electroplating. Those with sawing machines or grinders should pay more attention. The iron powder, iron sand and stainless steel cutting powder inside should not be poured into the crucible, which will cause poor electroplating and pimples. If there is such a situation, it is best to isolate it from the die-casting machine workshop to avoid unnecessary trouble.

    What are the detection technologies for die castings?

    Nondestructive testing technology plays an important role in workpiece quality inspection due to its non-destructive, efficient and fast characteristics. It can quickly detect defects on the surface of workpieces without damaging the workpieces. However, nondestructive testing is not able to detect hidden defects inside the workpiece, such as pores and shrinkage holes. To make up for this shortcoming, "metallographic testing" as a destructive testing method came into being. This method can accurately detect micron-level defects inside the casting by cutting specific sections of the casting for precise analysis. Although metallographic testing is impeccable in accuracy, its cost is relatively high and the testing process is time-consuming. More importantly, the workpiece being tested cannot be restored after the test and can only be used once, which undoubtedly increases production costs and resource consumption. So is there a fast, accurate, and relatively low-cost testing method? The answer is: X-Ray nondestructive testing. As of today, X-Ray has been widely used in the field of nondestructive testing of castings, and has evolved into two schools according to different application scenarios and customer needs, namely 2D and 3D. Among them, 2D testing has been widely used by major OEMs and their suppliers due to its fast imaging speed and the ability to achieve 100% online full inspection, and has also spawned corresponding industry and corporate standards. The most widely accepted and used are the industry standards formulated by ASTM and the corporate standards established by OEMs.
